Washougal Police detained a woman on Monday morning who was allegedly seen waving a gun and knife from a balcony on the 1900 block of North Sixth Street.

The woman was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for a mental evaluation, said Sgt. Brad Chicks of the Washougal Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of a “mentally deranged female” waiving a gun and knife on a balcony around 9:30 a.m., Chicks said.

A friend at the home was able to take the rifle away from the woman. Officers were then able to detain the suspect after she threw a Bible off the balcony into her yard and attempted to retrieve it, Chicks said.

The 45-year-old woman has a history of mental health issues, according to radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.
