ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels have placed right-hander Garrett Richards on the disabled list, one day after he left his second major league start because of a strained muscle near his groin.

The Angels also recalled right-hander Trevor Bell and left-hander Horacio Ramirez from Triple-A Salt Lake before Tuesday’s game against the Texas Rangers.

Richards threw 19 pitches before leaving Monday night.

The Angels also sent infielder Mark Romine to Salt Lake to clear roster space.

Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia says right-hander Joel Pineiro will return to the rotation Saturday against Baltimore to replace Richards. Pineiro’s struggles in several starts led to Richards’ promotion from Double-A Arkansas.
