PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Portland man accused of beating his 79-year-old grandmother with a baseball bat pleaded not guilty Monday to an indictment accusing him of attempted murder, assault and kidnapping.

The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/q9eyaK) the trial for 30-year-old Syrelle Carl Turner was set for Sept. 27. Meanwhile, he’s ordered to have no contact with his grandmother.

Police were called to a home Aug. 2 and found the woman bruised with swelling on her face and body. She said her grandson appeared drunk and attacked her after asking nonsensical questions.
