Almost 3,000 more ballots to be counted

Clark County elections officials have received almost 3,000 more ballots to be counted from Tuesday’s primary election.

Another count is expected this afternoon.

Washington law allows ballots turned in or postmarked by election day to be counted, even if they are received several days later.

On Tuesday night, the office tabulated 21,859 votes. But on Wednesday morning, the elections website reported the county has 24,781 votes in hand, including 940 received on Wednesday. The other votes yet to be counted presumably came from drop-off sites.

Among the races that could be affected by late vote tabulations are the Vancouver City Council primary, where less than 500 votes separate frontrunner Bill Turlay, second-place Anne McEnerny-Ogle, and third place (and incumbent) Pat Campbell.

In Woodland, a city council race was tied after Tuesday’s vote, but both Marshall Allen and Tony Brentin are likely to advance to the November general election. They each polled 205 votes, while the third candidate, Brian Ellis, trailed with 179.
