DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies have finalized their five-player trade that sent Ubaldo Jimenez to the Cleveland Indians last month by acquiring lefty Drew Pomeranz.

Because a player can’t be traded within a year of his signing, Pomeranz wasn’t allowed to join the Rockies organization until Wednesday. Pomeranz has been assigned to Double-A Tulsa, where he’ll make his first start Wednesday night against Midland.

The 21-year-old lefty was selected out of the University of Mississippi by the Indians with the fifth overall pick in the 2010 draft. He was 3-3 with a 1.98 ERA in 18 starts between the Indians’ Single-A and Double-A teams this summer.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound pitcher has held opponents to a .202 batting average, struck out 112 and walked 38 in 91 innings.
