WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — A Chelan County sheriff’s officer says no one was hurt when a gunman opened fire on mourners who gathered after a funeral for two young boys killed in a house fire.
Lt. Jerry Moore says authorities believe Wednesday night’s drive-by shooting at a residence in Malaga, Wash., southeast of Wenatchee is related to the Aug. 4 fire that killed the boys as they slept in a Wenatchee duplex.
Wenatchee police have said the fire was arson and was gang-related.
The Wenatchee World reports (http://bit.ly/q1X15U) that 30 to 40 people gathered at the house after Wednesday’s funeral for 6-year-old Ricardo Alejandre-Garcia and 4-year-old Mariano Alejandre-Garcia. Moore says a vehicle pulled up, the driver fired six to eight rounds from a semi-automatic handgun, then drove off. Two rounds hit a shed.
Moore says some people at the house identified the shooter. Police were looking for a white sedan.
