OAKRIDGE, Ore. (AP) — Furious Oakridge residents poured into a city council meeting to demand answers about the city treasury, which is short hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Elections officials have certified signatures on recall petitions aimed at four City Council members. On Thursday, City Administrator Gordon Zimmerman told the audience that none of the four would resign.
That means they will file rebuttal statements and have their jobs up for a vote in September.
The Eugene Register-Guard reports (http://bit.ly/n3hDuP ) that so far, 12 city workers have been laid off, utility rates have been increased, and the city has borrowed $500,000 against future property tax collections to shore up its finances.
