MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Alex Rodriguez says he felt much better after his workout on Friday and is still hoping to return to the New York Yankees lineup sometime this weekend.
Rodriguez went through an extensive workout on Friday afternoon. He ran the bases, took some batting practice and took grounders at third base. He says that his surgically repaired right knee feels great and he made big strides in running from first to third base, which was the biggest thing holding him back.
Manager Joe Girardi says he is leaning against activating Rodriguez for the game against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday. He says it is more likely he will play either Sunday in Minnesota or Tuesday at home against Oakland.
Rodriguez hasn’t appeared in a major league game since July 7.
