US wins gold medal at World University games

SHENZHEN, China (AP) — Nnemkadi Ogwumike of Stanford scored 24 points while Elena Delle Donne of Delaware added 18 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists to lead the United States to a 101-66 rout of Taiwan in the gold medal game of the World University games on Sunday.

Skylar Diggins of Notre Dame had 19 points and six assists for the U.S. (6-0), which has won the last four gold medals when it has entered the tournament.

Taiwan hung with the Americans through the first quarter, trailing by eight. Taiwan cut its deficit to 31-25 before the U.S. scored the next nine points.

The Americans led by 17 at the half and cruised the rest of the way.

Yuchen Chen scored 21 points to lead Taiwan (5-1), which earned its first medal.
