BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) — Beaverton police say a helmet likely saved the life of a bicycle rider who was struck by a van at an intersection.

Police say 76-year-old Clark Henry suffered broken ribs and a collapsed lung in the Saturday morning crash.

The driver told police she was blinded by the sun. There is a yellow flashing light at the intersection, and she was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
