PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have put starting pitcher Kevin Correia on the 15-day disabled list with a strained oblique and recalled right-hander Chris Leroux from a rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A Indianapolis to fill the roster spot.
Correia is 12-11 with a 4.79 ERA this season but just 1-4 since the All-Star break. The right-hander surrendered six runs in six innings of a no-decision against Cincinnati on Friday.
Correia is the second Pittsburgh starter to go on the DL in the last week.
Paul Maholm was put on the 15-day DL last Friday with a left shoulder strain. The veteran left-hander was examined by Dr. James Andrews on Monday, and Maholm tweeted there was no further damage beyond the strain
