MCMINNVILLE, Ore. (AP) — The Yamhill County sheriff’s office says a man who started a 5-acre fire by setting of fireworks will likely be fined and have to pay firefighting costs.

The 37-year-old from New Mexico was charged with reckless burning for Monday’s fire north of Sheridan.

The sheriff’s office says he was inspecting a home he recently inherited from his father and found a box of fireworks. The first one he lit started a grass fire.

The fire caused minor damage to the home and spread to neighboring property before firefighters were able to contain it.
