VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — A Clark County sheriff’s spokesman says a county jail inmate hospitalized after an apparent suicide attempt in jail has jumped to his death from the seventh floor of a Vancouver, Wash., medical center.

Sgt. Scott Schanaker said that last Saturday, 33-year-old Suka K. Suka of Vancouver apparently jumped from a jail upper railing onto the floor below “in what may have been a suicide attempt.”

He was taken the PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and was unconscious until he awoke early Tuesday morning.

The spokesman says the inmate used a small table to break the window in his hospital room and jumped, despite a sheriff’s office employee’s attempt to stop him.

PeaceHealth spokesman Ken Cole says the inmate landed on the roof of the medical center’s third floor.

The death is being investigated by the sheriff’s major crimes unit and the county medical examiner’s office.

Suka was arrested Aug. 16 by Vancouver police for investigation of domestic violence.
