SAO PAULO (AP) — Hospital officials say former Brazil captain Socrates is in stable condition six days after being treated for a stomach hemorrhage.

The Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo said in a statement Wednesday that Socrates had made “positive” progress.

Socrates was hospitalized late last week.

The hospital has said the hemorrhage was brought about by high blood pressure in the vein that carries blood from the digestive system to the liver.

The 57-year-old Socrates captained the national squad in the 1982 and 1986 Word Cups.
