LOS ANGELES (AP) — Scott Wannberg, a founding member of the Los Angeles-based experimental poetry group the Carma Bums, has died at age 58.

Fellow poet and longtime friend S.A. Griffin says Wannberg died Friday at his home in Florence, Ore.

Wann traveled North America for decades in a road-worn 1959 Cadillac, giving readings in cities from the Southwest to Canada.

From the 1970s until he moved to Oregon two years ago, Wannberg was a seemingly permanent fixture on the LA poetry scene. He gave hundreds of readings and published 10 volumes of poetry. His work also appeared in numerous anthologies.

His stream-of-consciousness, beat-influenced poems, noted for their colorful, vivid, often humorous language, touched on seemingly every subject that came to the poet’s mind, from politics to pop culture.
