Stay Thirsty slight favorite for Travers Stakes

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Stay Thirsty has been made the 5-2 favorite over the winners of the Preakness, Belmont Stakes and Haskell Invitational for Saturday’s Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.

A field of 10 was entered Wednesday for the 114 -mile “Mid-Summer Derby,” a race that could determine the leader of the 3-year-old division.

Haskell winner Coil is the second choice at 3-1, with Preakness winner Shackleford next at 9-2 and Belmont winner Ruler On Ice at 6-1.

Stay Thirsty, winner of the Jim Dandy on July 30, drew the No. 9 post and will be ridden by Javier Castellano. Coil, trained by Bob Baffert, leaves from the No. 7 post.

The rest of the field is Bowman’s Causeway, J W Blue, Malibu Glow, Moonshine Mullin, Raison d’Etat and Rattlesnake Bridge.
