Chinese librarians visit new library

The Columbian
Published: August 23, 2011, 5:00pm

Esther Short — A group of librarians from China made a visit to the new Vancouver Community Library on Aug. 10. The visitors included six library directors from different public and academic libraries in Fujian Province, China, and an interpreter. The librarians were here to exchange best library practices with their counterparts in Portland and Vancouver. The first item on their itinerary was touring the new Vancouver Community Library to learn about trends in library architecture. Amy Lee of the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District, who organized and hosted the Vancouver visit, traveled to Fujian Province in 2010 as part of a librarian exchange program started in 1998 by the Oregon State Library and its sister library, the Fujian Provincial Library in Fuzhou, China.
