COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — With preseason workouts all but finished, Ohio State interim coach Luke Fickell is pleased with how hard the Buckeyes have played so far.
No. 18 Ohio State opens on Sept. 3 at home against Akron.
Fickell, elevated this summer to take the place of Jim Tressel who resigned in the wake of a NCAA scandal over players getting cash and free tattoos for memorabilia, believes the adversity has brought his team closer together. He says he’s unsure how a head coach should feel, but that he has faced a “broader spectrum of worries.”
The Buckeyes return 11 starters from last year’s 12-1 season that was vacated as part of Ohio State’s NCAA penalties.
