CHICAGO (AP) — Braves RHP Tommy Hanson has returned to Atlanta to have his right shoulder re-evaluated by team doctors.

Hanson has been on the disabled list since Aug. 7 because of right rotator cuff tendinitis.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Thursday that Hanson “is frustrated” and may have tried to return from the injury too quickly.

Hanson threw just nine pitches in a bullpen session Monday and didn’t throw a scheduled bullpen Tuesday. Hanson was scratched from a scheduled rehab start at Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

He is 11-7 with a 3.60 ERA and leads the Braves’ staff with 142 strikeouts.

The Braves were finishing a four-game series in Chicago and begin a weekend series in New York against the Mets on Friday.
