TORONTO (AP) — Blue Jays manager John Farrell will not be in the dugout for Friday night’s home game against Tampa Bay a day after he was diagnosed with pneumonia.
Farrell left Thursday’s 9-6 loss to the Kansas City Royals in the bottom of the ninth inning. He was experiencing what the club said was muscular pain on his left side, below the rib cage.
He was not available for his usual postgame news conference and was taken to Mount Sinai hospital, where his condition was diagnosed. He has been released from hospital but has not returned to the team.
