3rd Stryker Brigade from JBLM to deploy again

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — The 3rd Stryker Bridge from Joint Base Lewis-McChord is going to deploy to Afghanistan again this December.

The Pentagon announced the deployment on Friday. 3rd Brigade to deploy again. The News-Tribune (http://bit.ly/oTc7OA ) reports it will be the 3rd Brigade’s fourth combat deployment in 10 years and its first to Afghanistan.

The brigade’s 3,200 soldiers are training to protect civilians and track down insurgents in Afghanistan.

The brigade returned from a yearlong mission in Iraq in July and August 2010.

About 1,700 soldiers from the base are currently fighting in Afghanistan, not counting Special Operations forces.
