TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals have lost starting cornerback Greg Toler for the season with torn left knee ligaments.

Toler, injured in Saturday night’s preseason loss to San Diego, was placed on injured reserve on Monday. The move could mean a starting assignment for first-round draft pick Patrick Peterson.

The team also, as expected, placed rookie running back Ryan Williams on injured reserve. Williams tore a patella tendon in his right knee in the team’s second preseason game.

Arizona waived-injured wide receiver Max Komar (knee) and safety Tommy Irvin (ankle). The Cardinals also released six players: fullback Charles Ali, wide receiver Daivieun Curry-Chapman, linebackers Curtis Gatewood and Duke Lemmens, and tackles Erik Mensik and Jason Speredon.
