LOS ANGELES (AP) — All-Star right fielder Andre Ethier is back in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ lineup a day after being held out because of a sore right knee that will require surgery, but apparently not until after the season.

Ethier was set to bat fifth against the San Diego Padres on Monday night. He again declined to discuss the situation with reporters, saying, “There’s nothing to talk about.”

Dodgers trainer Stan Conte also declined comment, leaving manager Don Mattingly to say that surgery is something that’s being discussed and that continuing to play Ethier isn’t going to further damage his knee.

Mattingly says Ethier never told him that he doesn’t want to finish out the season, which was the implication the slugger gave in comments published Sunday in the Los Angeles Times.
