SEATTLE (AP) — A doctor accused of killing his partner and their 2-year-old son pleaded not guilty Monday to aggravated murder charges at his arraignment in Seattle.

KOMO reports (http://bit.ly/nu9cXd ) the judge extended the 30-day period for a death penalty decision to Nov. 27 to give defense lawyers more time to prepare mitigating information for the King County prosecutor.

Louis C. Chen is accused of stabbing 29-year-old Eric A. Cooper and 2-year-old Cooper Chen. Their bodies were found Aug. 11 at their home in a high rise apartment on Seattle’s First Hill.

The 39-year-old Chen is an endocrinologist who recently moved to Seattle from Durham, N.C., to work at a medical center. He’s being held without bail in the King County Jail.
