Kaniskina wins women’s 20K walk at worlds

DAEGU, South Korea (AP) — Defending champion Olga Kaniskina won the women’s 20-kilometer walk Wednesday to claim her third straight title at the world championships.

The Russian pulled ahead of Liu Hong of China and teammate Anisya Kirdyapkina with six kilometers left and crossed the finish line in 1 hour, 29 minutes, 42 seconds.

Liu finished 18 seconds behind for the silver medal and Kirdyapkina won the bronze medal in 1:30:13.

Kaniskina, the 2008 Olympic champion, won the 20-kilometer event at the 2007 world championships in Osaka, Japan, and at the 2009 worlds in Berlin.
