Investigators Wednesday recovered a man’s body found floating in the Columbia River near Marine Park in Vancouver.

The body is believed to be that of a white man about 40 years old, according to a bulletin from the Vancouver Police Department. His name was not released Wednesday pending verification of identity and notification of his family. Vancouver Police Department detectives are investigating.

A Clark County Sheriff’s Office boat and personnel from the police and Vancouver Fire Department went to the scene at 2:52 p.m. Wednesday.

Two people found the body floating in shallow water by some pilings east of the boat launch. It appeared the person had been dead for a long time, an official said.

The cause and manner of death were under investigation.

Two Clark County residents drowned in the Columbia this summer. Carl Lacour, 45, of Camas jumped off a boat Aug. 21 near Jantzen Beach and drowned. On July 3, Battle Ground police Officer Michael M. Molzahn, 41, of Battle Ground drowned while swimming in the Columbia River. Both bodies were recovered.
