SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Harrison Smith’s fifth season at Notre Dame is one he expects to be different from all the others. This time, he believes, the Irish will break through and match the hype that always surrounds them.
For that to happen, Smith will have to be one of the team’s leaders, both in the locker room and on the field, where he intercepted seven passes last season, including three in a Sun Bowl win over Miami. Smith is also the team captain this season and he’s going to be more vocal if needed.
Notre Dame opens the season at home Saturday against South Florida.
