PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon authorities say a man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl has been arrested in North Carolina.

Sheriff Glenn Palmer of Grant County in Eastern Oregon said 36-year-old John Edward Williams Jr. fled last week after the abuse of the girl came to light.

Palmer said officers in North Carolina charged Williams on Tuesday with stealing towels and blankets from a motel in Haywood County and then found he was wanted in Oregon. He was jailed while extradition proceedings begin.
