Spain beats Portugal 87-73 at Europeans

PANEVEZYS, Lithuania (AP) — Los Angeles Lakers center Pau Gasol scored 20 points for defending champion Spain, which won its second game in two days at the European Championship by beating Portugal 87-73 on Thursday.

Spain pulled away early in the Group A game against the team that was the last to qualify for the tournament.

Juan Carlos Navarro scored 19 points for Spain and Marc Gasol had 10 points and nine rebounds. The three leading point scorers sat out most of the second half and the entire fourth quarter. Eleven players scored for Spain.

Antonio Tavares had 17 points for Portugal, which dropped to 0-2.
