What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

Carl Landry, who played for the Hornets last season but will be a free agent once/if NBA business resumes, is on record as saying that he’d like to play in Portland.
Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge told the website SLAMonline that he agrees Landry would be a good fit with the team and that his addition would boost Portland’s roster.
“That’s big of him to speak out, and I’m glad he spoke out and said he wants to play with us,” Aldridge said. “He’s a good player, and I definitely feel like he can help us immediately.”
Sporting News ranks ranks Landry No. 7 among this offseason’s free-agent class.
Aldridge disagrees with the notion that he and Landry would have trouble co-existing because they both play the power forward position.
“Landry’s a really good player, and good players know how to fit in,” Aldridge said. “Wouldn’t be a problem at all.”

Washington long has prided itself as being one of a handful of schools to have never played a team from a lower division (or what is now the Football Championship Subdivision).
That all ends at 4 p.m. Saturday when the Huskies kick off the season against Eastern Washington.
Washington is shifting to what is commonly referred to as an “A-B-C’’ nonconference schedule. That means one game with a established, powerful team (A), one game that’s toss-up in terms of winning or losing (B) and a third game against a team you figure to dominate (C).
Washington is an 18-point favorite over the Eagles. The B game is Hawaii at Husky Stadium, and the A game is a trip to Lincoln to play Nebraska (again).
This is a far cry from 2008, when the Dawgs played BYU, Oklahoma and Notre Dame. Of course, they went 0-12 that year and ex-coach Tyrone Willingham disappeared.
Washington’s A-B-C nonconference slate for 2012 is at LSU, home against San Diego State, and home vs. Portland State.
