Mercer beats Lipscomb 79-72

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Justin Cecil had 22 points to lead four double-figure scorers for Mercer as the Bears dropped Lipscomb 79-72 on Thursday night in the Atlantic Sun opener for both teams.

Jakob Gollon added 18 points, Langston Hall 14 and Bud Thomas 11 for the Bears (5-2), who shot 50 percent from the floor (30 of 60) in the win.

The Bisons had just a 38.1 percent mark from the field (24 of 63).

The teams were knotted up at 34-all at the break, but Thomas opened the second half up with a 3-pointer for a three-point Mercer lead and the Bears were ahead the rest of the way.

Mercer started the second half on a 10-3 run and outscored Lipscomb 45-38 in the frame to seal it.

Malcolm Smith had a game-high 22 points to lead the Bisons (4-4).
