Holt’s strong play leads Kent State past UAB 57-48

KENT, Ohio (AP) — Randal Holt scored 13 points and Chris Evans added 12 to lead Kent State to a 57-48 win over Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday night.

Michael Porrini finished with 11 points and Justin Greene scored 10 points but had a game-high eight turnovers for the Golden Flashes (5-1), who have won three straight games. Greene also made all six of his free throws and had four steals.

Kent State trailed by 11 points midway through the first half, but was able to cut UAB’s margin to four points by halftime. The score was close for most of the second half, until the Golden Flashes went on an 11-0 run that was capped by Holt’s three-point play to give them 49-45 lead with 7:36 left to play.

Kent State went on to push its lead to 10 points on another layup by Holt to pull away from the Blazers (1-6).
