Letter: Stop debating; put budget to a vote

The Columbian
Published: December 2, 2011, 4:00pm

I propose a national referendum on the budget. Set a common financial goal (e.g. pay down the national debt by $1 trillion by 2022). Republicans propose a plan; Democrats propose a plan. Congressional Budget Office must verify that each plan’s financial assumptions and economic estimates are reasonable and fair. A national vote is held on which plan voters prefer. The plan with the most votes becomes law.

I am tired of the debate. The nation is bleeding to death while the politicians butt heads over who is most qualified to act. Is it time for Congress to get out of the way?
