Old Dominion pulls away from Northeastern 69-59

BOSTON (AP) — Kent Bazemore scored 21 points and Old Dominion defeated Northeastern 69-59 on Saturday in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams.

With Northeastern leading 40-38 early in the second half, Old Dominion made a 12-0 run to lead 50-40 with 10:36 to play after two free throws by Nick Wright, who was 8 of 9 from the line. Northeastern could get no closer than five points the rest of the way and the lead remained in double digits for the final 3:39.

Chris Cooper added 17 points and Wright had 13 for the Monarchs (5-3), who own the first two-game winning streak in the 10- game history of the series.

Quincy Ford scored 16 points and Jonathan Lee added 11 for the Huskies (3-3).

Northeastern, which entered the game leading the conference in rebounding average and rebounding margin, was outrebounded 35-30. Old Dominion outscored Northeastern 16-11 on second-chance points.
