Randall, Hattestad win World Cup sprint events

DUESSELDORF, Germany (AP) — Kikkan Randall of the United States and Ola Vigen Hattestad of Norway won cross-country skiing World Cup sprint races on Saturday.

Randall claimed the women’s event in 1 minute, 44.6 seconds, with Russia’s Natalia Matveeva 0.4 seconds behind and Switzerland’s Laurien Van Der Graaf a second back.

Hattestad won the men’s event in 2:57, ahead of Russia’s Alexey Petukhov and Norway’s Paal Golberg in a photo-finish 0.1 seconds back.

Team sprints take place on the course along the Rhine River on Sunday.
