SEATTLE (AP) — The state’s largest teacher’s union has endorsed U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee for governor after Attorney General Rob McKenna backed out of plans to speak to the organization’s leadership on Saturday.

Washington Education Association President Mary Lindquist says the union decided to recommend Inslee to its members after hearing his concerns about state budget cuts and their impact on education.

Lindquist says it was obvious Inslee cares deeply about the children of this state and is knowledgeable about education issues.

She says WEA members were disappointed McKenna decided not to share his opinions on education with the group. Calls and emails to McKenna’s campaign asking for comment were not immediately returned Saturday.
