Clark County — Women who have overcome tremendous obstacles and who provide primary financial support for their families while attending a college or vocational school are eligible for the Women’s Opportunity Award.
The award is given by member groups of the Soroptimist International of the Americas.
Each year, more than $1 million is disbursed through cash awards at various levels of the organization. Many recipients are emerging from poverty, drug abuse and domestic violence and are able to use the money to pay for their education.
Locally, Soroptimist International of Southwest Washington will accept applications and do the first round of vetting.
The application requires a personal statement, career goals and financial information. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and cannot have earned an undergraduate degree already.
