Brian J. Hall, 22, was in critical condition Sunday night at Legacy Oregon Burn Center in Portland, a nursing supervisor said.

Police said Hall’s BMW hit a utility pole at McLoughlin and Grand boulevards about 2 a.m. Saturday.

The car was on fire when nearby resident James Bray and bystanders rescued Hall after much effort.

Vancouver police on Sunday said the department’s traffic unit is continuing its investigation.

A fire official said Bray’s actions and decision-making saved Hall’s life.
