Oakland, Mich., downs UMKC 86-73 for 6th straight

ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) — Laval Lucas-Perry scored 21 points to lead Oakland, Mich., to its sixth straight victory with an 86-73 decision over UMKC on Saturday night.

Corey Petros had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies (6-2, 2-0 Summit League). Reggie Hamilton had 18 points and six assists, and Drew Valentine scored 13.

Reggie Chamberlain’s game-best 30 points paced the Kangaroos (4-5, 1-1), whose three-game winning streak ended. Thomas Staton scored 10.

Travis Bader’s 3-pointer 6 minutes into the game propelled the Golden Grizzlies to a 15-12 lead and started a 10-0 run that put Oakland ahead to stay. The lead peaked at 17 in the second half.

The Golden Grizzlies outrebounded UMKC 41-31 and had a big edge at the foul line, hitting 24 of 30 to the Kangaroos’ 10 of 16.

Oakland has won 31 straight league home games.
