Thorns guides TCU past Evansville 70-68 in OT

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Hank Thorns scored the tying and winning baskets, the latter with 2 seconds left in overtime, to boost TCU to a 70-68 victory over Evansville on Saturday night in the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Challenge.

Thorns, who led the Horned Frogs with 21 points, tied the game 68-68 with 1:01 to play before his late layup won it. His 3-pointer also forced overtime by forging a 62-62 tie with 20 seconds left in regulation.

Colt Ryan scored 31 points, including 14-for-16 from the line, to pace the Purple Aces (3-3). Ryan has reached double figures in every game.

J.R. Cadot had 13 points and 10 rebounds, Amric Fields scored 12 points and Adrick McKinney grabbed 14 rebounds for TCU (6-2), which won its third in a row.

TCU held a 41-27 edge on the boards.

Both TCU’s Jim Christian and Evansville’s Marty Simmons coached their 300th games.
