Valparaiso beats Butler 77-71 in OT

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Richie Edwards scored 18 points and Ryan Broekhoff had 13 points and 12 rebounds Saturday to lift Valparaiso to a 77-71 overtime victory over Butler.

Matt Kenney’s three-point play with 32 seconds left in overtime gave the Crusaders (6-2) a 76-71 lead in the Horizon League opener for both teams.

Ronald Nored led the Bulldogs (4-4) with 17 points. Kameron Woods had 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Roosevelt Jones added 10 points for Butler.

Erik Buggs had 13 points for Valparaiso. Will Bogan scored 11 and Kevin Van Wajk had 10 points for the winners. Bogan’s 3-pointer with 1:04 left in regulation made it 64-62 Valparaiso, but Nored made 2 of 4 free throws after that and the game went to overtime.
