WASHINGTON (AP) — Charles Hinkle scored a career-high 32 points for American University, which used some clutch free-throw shooting late in a 66-60 victory over Saint Joseph’s on Sunday night.

Troy Brewer added 12 points for the Eagles (7-2), who won their seventh straight despite yielding what was a 13-point lead early in the second half.

Carl Jones scored 13 points for Saint Joseph’s (5-3), which saw a two-game winning streak snapped in the teams’ first meeting in 19 years.

C.J. Aiken, Ronald Roberts and Halil Kanacevic added 11 points apiece for the Hawks, who shot just 7 of 15 from the foul line and hit just one of their final five foul shots.

By contrast, American was 14 of 16 from the line, including 10 of their last 12 after St. Joseph’s had pulled into a 51-all tie late in the second half after an 18-6 run.
