Fordham hangs on to defeat Hampton 54-53

NEW YORK (AP) — Chris Gaston had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Kervin Bristol grabbed 16 rebounds to go with seven points, as Fordham hung on to beat Hampton 54-53 Monday night.

Bristol scored three consecutive baskets early in the second half to increase a one-point lead by the Rams (3-3) to 38-31 with 13:27 remaining.

Gaston, who has had double-doubles in five straight games, hit a jumper with 2:48 left to give Fordham a 54-48 lead.

Darrion Pellum, who led the Pirates (4-5) with 14 points, cut it to 54-51 with a 3-pointer, and a layup with 22 seconds left by David Bruce, who scored 11 points, made it 54-53.

Hampton got the ball back after a missed free throw by Gaston, but Pellum missed a 3-point try with 3 seconds left.

The Pirates played for the second straight night in New York, after beating Howard at Madison Square Garden Sunday night.
