TOKYO (AP) — Japanese police have arrested two-time Olympic judo gold medalist Masato Uchishiba on suspicion of sexual assault.

The 33-year-old Uchishiba was arrested Wednesday, according to a National Police Agency spokesman.

Uchishiba was fired in September as a judo coach by Kyushu University of Nursing and Social Welfare amid allegations that he gave a female student an alcoholic drink at a hotel and sexually harassed her.

He has denied claims of sexual harassment.

Uchishiba won gold in the 66-kilogram class at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. He announced his retirement from competition in October 2010 and became a visiting professor at the university in January.
