ST. IGNACE, Mich. (AP) — Federal officials say they’ve recovered the wreckage from a single-engine plane crash that killed two men in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula this past weekend.
National Transportation Safety Board investigator Pam Sullivan told The Associated Press on Tuesday her team is inspecting the wreckage, reviewing records and conducting interviews. Sullivan said she will submit a report to the board, which will determine what caused the crash.
The plane left St. Ignace on Saturday night for a 4.5-mile flight to Mackinac Island but didn’t show up. Searchers found the downed aircraft the next day in the woods near the Lake Huron shoreline.
The victims were identified as 29-year-old Joseph Pann Jr. of St. Ignace and 52-year-old Thomas Phillips, who had homes in Kirkland, Wash., and Mackinac Island. Phillips was an executive with Amazon.com.
