Talking Points

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

The most humorous thing about Tim Tebow’s latest fourth-quarter comeback and overtime victory was watching the apoplectic talking heads on ESPN immediately after the game.

Chris Berman, Tom Jackson and Trent Dilfer were at a loss for words to explain how the Broncos rallied for a 13-10 win over the Bears — short of Dilfer hinting that there might be a higher power involved.

We won’t go that far. Instead, we’ll turn to the sage-like Oscar Hammerstein II, who wrote the lyrics, “Who can explain it? Who can tell you why? Fools give you reasons, wise men never try.”

Sometimes, it’s best to just sit back and marvel rather than searching for explanations.

Lost in a Sunday of thrilling comebacks was the NFL coming-out party of Titans quarterback Jake Locker, a rookie out of the University of Washington.

In the most extensive action of his young career, Locker completed 13 of 29 passes for 282 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. He also rushed for a team-high 36 yards.

It wasn’t enough, as Tennessee’s march to the New Orleans 5-yard line ended with a sack on the final play and a 22-17 win for the Saints, but it showed a bit of promise for the former Husky great.
