PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Portland teen admits he was wrong to steal a shirt, but he’s fighting the consequences — deportation to Mexico.

Gustavo Romero-Alvarez told KATU (http://is.gd/KpBrK8) he has no memory of Mexico. He was brought to the United States illegally when he was 7 years old and is a senior at Centennial High School.

Authorities discovered his undocumented immigration status after his arrest last year for the department store theft. Alvarez spent two months in Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention. He is scheduled to be deported this week.
