Man arrested at ‘Mary Jane’s House of Glass’

One man was arrested and 5 pounds of dried marijuana seized Friday following a police search at a Washougal business.

At 12:12 p.m., a Washougal police officer was flagged down by a citizen in front of “Mary Jane’s House of Glass — Precious Paws Dog and Cat Food,” at 1825 “E” St.

The citizen said he was inside Mary Jane’s for approximately 20 minutes yelling for the store clerk but nobody came to the counter. Concerned something may have happened to an employee inside the store, he exited the building to call 911 and then contacted a Washougal Police vehicle driving past on “E” Street.

Officers searched the store and discovered a sleeping male on the floor of an office, and another room that contained a large amount of dried marijuana laying all over the floor, counters, and in open large plastic garbage bags.

The man, 21-year-old Mario Corona, was uninjured and later arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail on one count of felony possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

WPD officers later re-entered the building and executed a search warrant.

According to a press release, the room with the largest amount of marijuana appeared to be used as a processing room and contained packaging material, a bag sealing machine, scale, loose marijuana, and stripped marijuana stalks.

Numerous smoking devices, including glass pipes and water pipes known as “bongs,” containing burnt residue were also seized. In addition, officers noted loose marijuana on the floor in several of the rooms behind the store front.

In all, approximately 5 pounds of dried marijuana was removed from the store.

According to police, the investigation continues and additional arrests may occur.

In a Feb. 23, 2010, Post-Record article, “Mary Jane’s House of Glass — Precious Paws Dog and Cat Food” owner Jill Brock said that month she had added sales of glass pipes, used for the purpose of delivering medical marijuana, to her business that also sells products for pets.

“You can always buy glass,” she said at the time. “It’s sand. It’s not illegal ’til you do something with it. We sell nothing in the line of clear glass for crack addicts and ‘meth heads.’ They don’t need to come around. This is strictly art glass for medical marijuana.”

There are six Mary Jane’s House of Glass stores in the Clark County and Portland areas. According to its website, it is a family-owned business in operation for more than 12 years and sells “hundreds of unique products, including glass pipes, bongs, candles, incense, and more.”
