A small fire prompted a partial evacuation of a building at the Vancouver campus of the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center on Tuesday morning.
The call, which was initially reported as a fire alarm, was upgraded to structure fire around 9:30 a.m., prompting a response by several engines.
The fire was on the roof of one of the buildings on the campus and was related to work going on at the time, said Capt. Chris Moen, a Vancouver Fire Department spokesman. Workers were able to extinguish the blaze before firefighters arrived, Moen said.
Firefighters cleared people to re-enter the building and stayed on scene to make sure the fire didn’t extend into the building.
Damage was said to be “very minor,” Moen said.
