OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Two members of Washington’s redistricting panel say they have reached an agreement on new congressional district maps.
Republican commissioner Slade Gorton and Democratic commissioner Tim Ceis said Tuesday they will release the plan Wednesday morning. That will leave the public little time to review and comment on the plans, as the panelists say they’d like to be done by Friday.
Commission members must reach a deal by New Year’s Day, or the process will be sent to the Supreme Court. The panel includes two Republican and two Democratic appointees. At least three of them need to agree on the maps.
The congressional maps incorporate Washington’s new 10th District, which was allocated to the state after a decade of population growth.
